The time when UN report published its reports saying Surat is world’s fastest growing cities. Several Peoples living outside India are willing to do business with Surat. The glitter of Surat has always lured people. The ones who want to establish business in India are now thinking to set-up in Surat rather for example Sneha Thobhani,a daughter of Gujarat
parents based in Leicester. Howe, little did she know that the dazzling stones are manufactured in Surat. A visit to the diamond –manufacturing units in the city was enough to make her feel proud of Gujarat and especially the citu of diamonds (Surat) when she saw skilled artisans shaping the glittering stones on the emery wheels in diamond factories.
Thanks to the Know India Programme (KIP) organized by Ministry of Overses Indian Affaurs (MOIA) for foreign youths of Indian origin, Aarti is eagerly waiting to fly back to her hometown in UK. She wants to share the information with her colleagues at work and friends that the diamonds they love to0 wear from the land of her ancestors.
Some 34 foreign youths of Indian origin have embarked on a three-week journey from Surat to see and understand the developments and achievements.
The youths visited Indian Diamond Institute (IDI) where the authorities including the executive director,KK Sharma, provided vital information about the diamond trade and its establishments in Surat.The youths were taken on a guided tour to some of the loeading diamond units like Sanghavi exports to make them understand processes involving cutting and polishing of diamonds.
These diaspora youths are in the age group of 18-26 years and have been drawn from 10 countries, which include students and professionals Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh are the two partner stars for the progrtamme this year.
The group will spend eight days in Gujarat. They will also visit Amul cooperative in Anand, Kandla Port, IIM-Ahmedabad and the remains of Indus Valley Civilisation. The group will then move to Uttar Pradesh and spend nine days there. They are scheduled to visit the historic cities of Agra, Allahabad, Lucknow and Varanasi, beside taking a look at the modern city of Noida.
